Subject: Servo Tuning Simodrive
Hello,

The Studer S35 system I am working on is a Siemans servo, Simodrive drive with tachogenerator.

I assume this is a velocity drive system.

Formerly, there was no provision in the control for tuning.....just a few pots in the Simodrive.

The owner was been a Studer tech for about 25 years, and is quite comfortable tuning the servos with said pots on the Simodrive.

How would I go about configuring the tuning screen to allow him to manually set the servos without any additional input from kflop?

Would I just leave the PID values at zero?

Mike

Hi Mike,

Yes configure the amps for velocity mode tuned for highest gain and performance. Then close the position loop with KFLOP+Kanalog with P gain.

Mike,
I did a similar thing on my mill. I am using AMC analog-input velocity-feedback drives, DC motors/tachs from Tree on X and Y, and motors I found on the quill and knee (without velocity feedback).
First, I adjusted the drive's zero offset, gain, current limit, and reference gain, using instructions from AMC. This is done with KMotion disconnected.
Then I connected KMotion, and went thru the tuning procedures. I ended up with P gains of 6-16, depending on the axis, I of 0.001 to 0.0024, and D of 0.

Thanks for the responses.

It's confusing to me since it seems to be a redundant system.

The grinder should rapid at 600 ipm.

I have roughly 50,800 counts per inch. Should my velocity setting be 508,000? cpi x rapid ipm/60 ?

Where should I begin with Acceleration?

Jerk?

Max Integrator?

Since the Simodrive is controlling maximum current, should I just put the max Output to 1024 and let the Simodrive deal with it?

I guess filtering is unnecessary?

Mike

I've been reading through other threads about this, and I think I'm getting a better idea.

I will have to wait until Monday to try some more things out.

I thought I read that max output of 10v was 1024.....but i guess its 2047?
